Collaborative Practice Assessment Tool (CPAT)

The Collaborative Practice Assessment Tool (CPAT) is an assessment for members of collaborative practice teams. The tool is intended for use in a variety of health care settings with different health care providers to determine professional development needs and the corresponding education.

The CPAT has a survey and open-ended questions. The survey has 56 items in 8 domains: Mission, Meaningful Purpose, Goals; General Relationships; Team Leadership; General Role Responsibilities, Autonomy; Communication and Information Exchange; Community Linkages and Coordination of Care; Decision-making and Conflict Management; and Patient Involvement.

 


College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia – Working With Students Module

The Working With Students Module developed by the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia is intended to provide clarity around the role of registered nurses and nurse practitioners when supervising students as learners or employed student nurses (ESNs). It outlines how to put into practice the Regulatory Supervision and Employed Student Registrant Practice Standards which were introduced to help supervisors understand their role when working with student learners and ESNs. This online resource provides guidance on the processes nurses choose to use with students and clarifies their accountabilities. The entire module is 45 minutes in length, but individuals can work through it at their own pace.

 


Curtin Univeristy – Interprofessional Capability Framework

This brochure provides information on the Interprofessional Capability Framework developed at Curtin University. The framework provides a model for teaching and assessing the capabilities required to be a collaborative practice-ready health professional. The brochure describes the framework, provides a brief background into the importance of collaborative practice and explores key definitions of this area. This resource also provides specific examples of how an individual demonstrates collaborative practice capabilities.


Curtin University – Interprofessional Capability Assessment Tool (ICAT)

The Interprofessional Capability Assessment Tool (ICAT) is a summative evaluation tool used for interprofessional placements at Curtin University. ICAT assesses key capabilities required for effective interprofessional collaborative practice including: communication, professionalism, collaborative practice, and client-centered service/care. This tool is unique in that it is both a self assessment (student) and staff assessment (fieldwork educators). At the end of a placement, students and staff complete the form separately and then meet to discuss their ratings. The meeting provides an opportunity work through any discrepancies between the student’s self assessment and the staff’s assessment. For detailed information on how to use the ICAT, refer to the Staff and Student Guide for ICAT,

 

 


Dalhousie Interprofessional Collaborative Competencies Attainment Survey (ICCAS)

The Dalhousie interprofessional Collaborative Competencies Attainment Survey (ICCAS) is a useful assessment & reflective tool for students that are hoping to compare their own interprofessional competencies pre- and post- engagement in different interprofessional learning activities. It can also be used by clinical educators to help facilitate this process with their students

The tool provides a 7-point Likert scale that allows the learner to self-assess one’s level of comfort in displaying certain aspects of interprofessionalism within the different competency categories. It also provides self-reflection questions to serve as a guide for reflection prior to and after engaging in interprofessional activities. The ICCAS is a unique assessment instrument in the field of IPE as it is one of the first validated surveys to measure the competencies of interprofessional care and incorporates a retrospective pre-test/post-test design.


Dalhousie Preceptor eLearning Course

The Preceptor eLearning Course is a useful set of modules for preceptors that are hoping to improve upon their skillset as mentors to students.

The modules are designed to provide information and support to preceptors and focus of five different topics: the preceptor role, teaching & learning, evaluating students & delivering feedback, supporting students, and fostering interprofessional learning experiences.


Global Interprofessional Therapeutical Communication Scale (GITCS)

“The Global Interprofessional Therapeutic Communication Scale© (GITCS©) was developed to be used during initial and continuing education of interdisciplinary students in simulated or clinical settings by faculty, peers, or individuals self-assessment, allowing for benchmark, formative, and summative evaluation.”

ICPLE Evaluating Team Effectiveness

The Team Effectiveness Tool is a useful assessment tool for healthcare teams wanting to periodically assess their development/improvement as an interprofessional body. Periodic completion of the tool will allow for evaluation of the team’s progress over time and provide direction for further changes, as the collected responses can be discussed for interpretation and future planning.

The assessment criteria includes six key elements (team purpose and vision, roles, communication, service delivery, team support, and partnerships), which is assessed out of a 7-point Likert Scale; room for comments is provided.


ICPLE IP Placement Optional Student Interview Guide

The IP Placement Optional Student Interview Guide is a guide for students who wish to reflect upon their experiences after their clinical placement. It may also be used by clinical educators to help facilitate this process with their students.

The tool consists of a series of reflective questions that prompts the student to reflect on the variety of different experiences they had during the placement.
